The setting: Tulum by day and after dark

Tulum sits on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Riviera Maya, in the state of Quintana Roo. Its Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) is a long, low-rise stretch where the beach meets the jungle, lined with beach clubs, boutique stays and restaurants lit by candles and lanterns once the sun goes down. A short ride inland, Tulum town has its own evening energy: taquerias, mezcal bars and streets that stay lively well after dinner.

Getting there and what to pack

Pack for day and night: swimwear and sun protection, one or two polished dinner looks, something you’d like to wear out after dark, and comfortable shoes for the market walk.
